Memories of yesterday

CAMPING
by Annette B Summers,
It has been said that I do not like to camp. I won't deny it may not be my favorite thing to do. I have heard many women of a generation older than I say things about not having running water and indoor plumbing when they were growing up and so why would they go back to that,,,,
I must say I do like the indoor plumbing factor of staying home or in a motel.
I like to be where I can get clean.
Camping with
my Mom was as clean as you could get. Our hands and faces were always washed hair combed, and no doubt there was always a pot of boiling clean water available.
Mmm I can almost smell the instant hot chocolate.
( we used to make the mix out of instant milk, sugar and coco; you didn't just open a package and dump it in.) A couple of heaping tablespoons and some hot water was the recipe)
We had some fun trips.. I remember one trip from my older growing up years was when we went and joined with the Paul Bouck family. Paul had his pontoon boat and we fished from the boat. Dad indulged me and baited my fishing hook a lot. LOL
we played on the lake shore and in the water and sang song around the campfire at night.
Dad and Paul insisted on singing the dog song. Come on - you know the one... we girls begged them not to sing it, I don't know about Neil. But they sang that dang song anyway. I can hear Dads voice in my mind singing something about old Shep just a boy and his dog.
Anyway Shep the dang dog dies, and we always ended up crying. I get the sniffles just thinking about it....
Dad can you sing it to me... sept'n I don't want to cry about it.
and I' share more of my camping memories later. ;)
Love to you all Annie
